4-H horse project fundraiser March 21 in Spring Valley
On Saturday, March 21, the Pierce County 4-H Horse Project will hold a fundraising kick-off event at Spring Valley Banquet Hall (formerly the Red Barn).
The doors will open at 4 p.m. with an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, mealtime entertainment provided by the Ellsworth High School Dixieland Jazz Band, silent auctions, 50/50 raffles and a dance at 8 p.m.
The horse project is the largest 4-H/FFA project in the entire county. The horse barn at the fairgrounds is too small to house all the project animals, so portable stalls and a tent to cover them have been rented for years. A more permanent structure, so officials are in the process of raising funds to add on to the existing facility. Currently, the costs for these improvements is estimated at $40,000.
There are members from surrounding counties enrolled in Pierce County 4-H, and the county has also been chosen to host the District Gymkhana 4-H Horse Show in 2009 and 2010. At the district show, youth from 14 counties are expected, so businesses and other organizations from surrounding counties will have youth using the facility.
Advance tickets to the kickoff are available at Pierce County Extension Office, Ellsworth area banks and the First Bank of Baldwin-Spring Valley office.
