Accidents involving Kenseth, Patrick mar Bristol NASCAR race
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Drivers were throwing helmets and wagging fingers at each other Saturday night, but that didn't keep Denny Hamlin from picking up his third win of the season.
Hamlin passed Carl Edwards for the lead with 38 laps to go, then held on to win the Sprint Cup IRWIN Tools Night Race. Jimmie Johnson finished second. Tony Stewart was the one who tossed his helmet into the nose of Cambridge native Matt Kenseth's car after the two slammed into each other about two-thirds of the way through the race. And, it was Beloit native Danica Patrick pointing at Regan Smith when he sent her into the wall before that.
Eau Claire's Paul Menard had the best finish by a Wisconsin driver, 10th, while Travis Kvapil finished 18th. Kenseth was 25th and Patrick 29th. The bad finished knocked Kenseth out of second place in the Sprint Cup Series standings and into fourth place. Greg Biffle held on to the top spot.
