Ada Ray,100

Ada Evelyn Mae (Marker) Ray, age 100, of Ellsworth died Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Ellsworth Care Center.

Ada was born on March 3, 1913, the daughter of Albert and Estel (Ertel) Marker at Lawton Homestead, in Ellsworth Township, Wis. On May 1, 1934, Ada married Oscar Ray in Hastings, Minn. They are blessed with three children: Audrey, Eugene and Kathryn.

They farmed in Ellsworth Township, from 1934 until 1958, when they lost their home to a fire. They then moved to Martell. Oscar passed away in 1975, Ada continued to live in Martell until 1999, when she moved into a trailer house on her grandson's property in Beldenville, Wis. She lived there until she had a stroke in 2009, and then became a resident of the Ellsworth Care Center.

Ada was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Beldenville. She worked at Smead Manufacturing in River Falls, Wis., for 26 years. After retirement, she cared for Bruce and Lanette Place's children for several years. Ada enjoyed many hobbies including: sewing, crocheting, playing cards, bird watching, flower gardening, puzzles, ceramics, and doll collecting. Most of all Ada enjoyed family and friends, sharing stories and attending family events.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Oscar; two infant twin daughters (Germaine at birth, Geraldine at 5 months); sisters: Grace Nelson, Juliet Aamodt Dandy, Emily Leonard, and Helen Peterson; son-in-law Donald Kiefer.

Survivors include her three children: Audrey Kiefer of Beldenville, Eugene (Phyllis) Ray of Ellsworth, and Kathryn (Gary) Linder of Balsam Lake, Wis. seven grandchildren: Steve (Roxanne) Kiefer of Spring Valley, Wis., Eva (Lee) Boettcher of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Dave (Loralee) Kiefer of Beldenville, Melanie (Charles) Freier of Ellsworth, Amy (Kenneth) Matzek of Beldenville, Daryl (Heidi) Linder of Luck, Wis., Daron (Anita Harr) Linder of Balsam Lake; 19 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Martha Peterson of Ellsworth, and Mable Peterson of Lake Preston, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Steve Kiefer, Daryl Linder, Daron Linder, Joshua Kiefer, Andrew Kiefer, and Curtis Kees. Honorary pallbearer: Roger Peterson of Eagan, MN (Godchild).

Visitation was Sunday, from 4-7 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, ( Spring Valley. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Beldenville, Rev. John Sutherland officiating. Music was provided by organist Heather Johnson and vocalist Loralee Keifer. Burial was in the church cemetery.
