In this morning's other quarter-final, Stoughton edged Neenah 4-3. Pitcher P.J. Rosowski bunted home the game-winner with one out in the bottom of the seventh. He also recorded the win, giving up three runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. No. 1 ranked Bay Port crushed Hartford 14-0 in its quarterfinal this afternoon Stevens Point is taking on Kenosha Bradford in the other quarterfinal. Those winners will face each other tonight in the last semifinal contest tonight.
The Milwaukee Brewers hope to be the first team to rally against young Jacob Turner, as the Crew plays the Marlins in Miami tonight. Turner, a 22-year-old right-hander, has given up just one run in 13 innings after being called up from Triple-"A" late last month. Turner is 1-0 in two starts with a 0.96 ERA. Milwaukee's offense has been powerful and efficient in the team's current four-game winning streak. The Crew has hit .325 with runners in scoring position in those contests, with 24 runs scored. The Brewers tied a season-high with 16 hits in a five-run victory over the Marlins last night. It almost lifted them out of the cellar, as Milwaukee moved into a tie with the Chicago Cubs for fourth place in the National League Central. A win tonight by Milwaukee - coupled with a Cubs loss to Cincinnati - would put Milwaukee out of last for the first time since May 26th. Right-hander Wily Peralta goes for the Brewers this evening.
In the Midwest League, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Beloit Snappers will open another series against each other tonight - this time, in southern Wisconsin. The Snappers have a magic number of two to clinch the first-half Wild Card playoff spot in the Western Division. Beloit topped Burlington 5-1 last night, while the Timber Rattlers crushed Clinton at home, 8-2. Cedar Rapids continues to lead second-place Beloit by one game in the West. Tonight, Cedar Rapids plays at Quad Cities. Clinton hosts Peoria. Burlington is at Kane County. West Michigan is at Great Lakes. Fort Wayne entertains Lake County. Dayton hosts Bowling Green. East leader South Bend will complete a suspended game at Lansing that was tied at four in the 12th inning. They'll then play their scheduled contest.
The Green Bay Packers have signed another non-drafted free agent - receiver Terrell Sinkfield from Northern Iowa. The Miami Dolphins signed him on May third, and released him 25 days later. In four years at Northern Iowa, Sinkfield caught 76 passes for almost 11-hundred yards and 10 touchdowns. Four of those scores came in his senior year in 2012. The Packers held their final public OTA practice today across from Lambeau Field.
