Apply now for gardeners' grants

The St. Croix Valley Master Gardeners Association (SCVMGA) invites individuals and organizations to apply for a grant to help educate, beautify or serve their community in 2011.

This year a total of $3,500 will be awarded with an individual maximum grant of $250. The requirements designate that the projects benefit a non-profit or community service-based organization and serve one or more of these purposes: Community or civic beautification, such as parks, schools, or public spaces; gardening for area food projects; educational projects involving horticulture; environmental stewardship, e.g. prairie restoration.

More specifically, some of the projects we have helped fund in past years include: Rain gardens; butterfly gardens; bird gardens; school vegetable gardens; library and community gardens; gardens at senior centers and nursing homes; school, 4H, YMCA and other youth projects; Habitat for Humanity landscaping; projects at the county fairgrounds; renovation of school grounds; compost projects; and establish native and woodland garden in Willow River State Park.

Organizations within St. Croix and Pierce Counties are eligible to apply. Grant proposals must be submitted (by mail or e-mail) on the SCVMGA grant application and returned by March 12.
