Area softball: Prescott 10, Ellsworth 5
Prescott scored seven unearned runs Monday courtesy of four Ellsworth errors and won on the road.
One of the more costly errors came with two outs and two on in the second inning. The Cardinals hit a dribbler to the first baseman and the ball was booted. Ellsworth led 3-0 at the time, but Prescott went on to score three runs that inning.
"We were two feet from the bag for the third out," Ellsworth coach Ryan Casper said.
Halle Hatch pitched all seven innings for Ellsworth and suffered the loss. She struck out one, walked two and gave up eight hits.
"Prescott's a good hitting team. There's no way around that," Casper said. "They're one of the top hitting teams in the conference. They're patient. They wait for their pitch."
Sophie Carlson drove in four runs for Prescott and finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs. Stacie Peterson paced the Panthers at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Ellsworth dropped to 10-3 overall and 9-2 in the Middle Border Conference. The Panthers travel Thursday to Baldwin-Woodville.
