Badger men shutout Gophers 6-0, women lose 7-5
MINNEAPOLIS - Scott Gudmandson was perfect in goal with 24 saves, as Wisconsin blew past Minnesota on the ice Friday, 6-0 at Mariucci Arena.
Michael Mersch had two goals to lead the Wisconsin offense. He has five goals in nine games this season. The Badgers improved to 6-2-1 overall, and 3-1-1 in the WCHA while the injury and illness plagued Gophers, who had won three straight contests, drop to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the WCHA.
UW scored four goals in the second period to take a 5-0 lead. Badger goalie Scott Gudmanson becomes only the third UW goalie since 1969 to get a shutout at Minnesota.
The number-one-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team lost to Minnesota 7-5 Friday at Ridder Arena. It was the first loss of the year for Wisconsin, after eight wins.
Emily West led the Gophers with two goals and an assist. Goalie Noora Raty had 36 saves.
Junior Hilary Knight had a goal and two assists for the Badgers. Minnesota improves to 6-4 overall, and 3-4 in the WCHA.
