Badgers banged up on defense during camp
MADISON - Four projected starters on the Wisconsin football team have been injured since the Badgers' pre-season camp opened 10 days ago.
Senior safety Jay Valai sat out both practices yesterday with both a right knee injury and a concussion. Coach Bret Bielema could not say how long Valai would be out - but he said he'd return quote, "sooner than later."
Defensive tackle Jordan Kohout injured his left knee on August 11th, but he's due back either today or tomorrow. Guard Kevin Zeitler injured an ankle in a scrimmage last weekend, and he hopes to remove a walking boot today. Linebacker Mike Taylor aggravated an injury to his right knee. But Bielema says he could be ready for the season opener on September fourth. Linebacker Blake Sorenson also hurt a knee while filling in for Taylor. He has missed four practices, but he could return tomorrow. Also yesterday, back-up tight end Brian Wozniak broke his left shoulder on a hit from a safety - and he's out indefinitely. And redshirt freshman safety Conor O'Neill has missed three workouts with a bad ankle - and he's due back as early as tomorrow.
