Bechels thrilled with land conservation honor
ELMWOOD--Dave Bechel has been around farming nearly all of his life, so it's safe to say he has strong feelings about land conservation.
"We try to farm with the contour of the land," he said. "We're quite conscious of keeping the land as it should be."
As a result, Bechel and wife Amy, who own Maple Grove Dairy, were named Outstanding Land Conservation award winners by the Ellsworth Lions and the Pierce County Land Conservation Department. The Bechels will receive the award at a banquet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the Ellsworth American Legion.
"We're honored to be chosen because we try to be conservation minded all year long," Dave said.
Dave and Amy have owned Maple Grove Dairy, located on CTH S outside of Elmwood, since 2003, when they bought it from Dave's mother, Marcella. Dave had previously worked with his father, Norbert, until he died in the fall of 2002.
