Beer and brats coming to Prescott Labor Day
PRESCOTT -- Last October, Ptacek’s IGA of Prescott set a then-world record, as they made a 52 feet-2 inch bratwurst.
The record was eclipsed, as “The World’s Largest Brat Fest” in Madison broke Ptacek’s record by two feet in May.
On Sept. 2, Ptacek’s responds and, this time, they are going big.
“We will be making a 150-foot brat and will use our own bun,” said Manager Pat Ptacek, noting one of the big differences from last year’s attempt.
The brat is only half of the main attraction that day, as the World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales will also appear. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Ptacek’s IGA parking lot.
Ptacek explains this all started with an innocent conversation.
He was at an IGA Global Rally in Chicago a few months ago with his wife Joy and brother Ralph when he started telling the story about how the community got involved last year on the brat attempt.
Unbeknownst to Pat, the listeners included management from Budweiser, who were impressed with the small town’s efforts.
Next thing, the Ptaceks were flown to St. Louis, where they got to meet and pet the Clydesdales and discussions for the party intensified.
“I had no intention of doing another brat,” Pat admitted. “But, things snowballed and one thing led to another.”
The final attraction from the party is all proceeds from the event will go toward a park that will be built in the City of Prescott.
“Last year, we had about 1,000 people,” he explained. “This year, I think we can double it or maybe triple it.” Shuttle service will be available.
Ptacek said brat and bun preparations will begin shortly. He admits some nervousness as the Ptacek’s parking lot is also 150 feet long, but is confident, like last year, they will be successful.
“This is basically a party to celebrate how awesome Prescott is,” Ptacek said. Other attractions include live music, jump houses for kids, a 12-foot cherry pie from the Lions Club and the chance to take pictures with the Clydesdales. Admission is free, but food and beer will cost. For more information, visit www.ptaceksiga.com.
