Wyatt McGrath, age 7 of Beldenville, took home the title of AMA (American Motocross Association) national champion after several months of competing in motocross races across the country.

In March Wyatt went to Charleston, Indiana to qualify at the area qualifier. He won the race there. Then in June he went to Buchanan, Michigan to compete at the regional qualifier where he placed second overall. Wyatt rode in one of six regions across the U.S. where they only take the top five riders out of each region. Thus, only 30 riders made it to the national race at Loretta Lynn’s Hurricane Hills in Tennessee, which took place July 27 through Aug. 2.

At nationals, Wyatt won three races in the 50CC Special Limited class to claim the title. Since only five percent of elite riders make it to nationals to begin with, this is certainly a dream come true for Wyatt and his family. Out of 22,000 competitive riders in the U.S., Wyatt was one of the 31 national champions awarded at the national race.
