Benefit for Ellsworth area 21-month-old with CF furthers hope
The obstacles to good health for 21-month-old Ava Schutz are so overwhelming that hope seems elusive.
Her parents, Jared and Jessa, have been told the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patient will continue to take the medications and therapy she's now receiving for the rest of her life. They've also been made aware the average life expectancy for such patients is between 25 and 35 years. Even getting a cold, the flu or pneumonia could prove deadly.
"We've been advised to let her do the things she can while she's still young," Jessa (Gilliland) Schutz said Wednesday.
But hope is behind the benefit for the family being planned by themselves and grandmother Janet Huebner for Saturday, Feb. 23, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the El Paso Bar and Grill in Ellsworth.
