Bennett leaves Wisconsin for Northern Illinois
MADISON - Wisconsin women's basketball assistant Kathi Bennett is leaving.
She was named yesterday as the new head coach at Northern Illinois.
Bennett spent the last two seasons as the top assistant to Badgers' coach Lisa Stone. She got much of the credit for improving a Wisconsin defense that was first in the Big Ten in scoring defense this past season, giving up just over 56 points a game. And the Badgers made the NCAA Tournament in March for the first time in Stone's seven years in Madison.
Bennett was also a finalist for the head coaching jobs at Indiana State and Wright State in the past few weeks. She's the daughter of former Badgers' coach Dick Bennett. She was a head coach for a decade at Evansville and the Indiana Hoosiers, ending in 2005.
