SPRING VALLEY - "Just win baby," as the old Al Davis phrase goes, is really all Spring Valley has to do from now until the end of the regular season if it wants the Dunn-St. Croix Conference title outright.

And so long as the Cardinals keep doing so, tonight against Mondovi at home and Tuesday at Colfax that's exactly what will happen. The match against the Buffaloes will start at 7 p.m. and is SV's final regular season home match this season.

Valley knocked back Boyceville on Tuesday with an impressive 3-0 sweep on the road. The game scores were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23. SV is still tied for first place at 6-1 in league play but those teams knotted up with them, Mondovi and Colfax, are next up.

Boyceville and Elk Mound are both a game back at 5-2 while Pepin is 4-3. In a certain way tonight's match-up is a semifinal contest for Colfax will be at Boyceville tonight. Elk Mound hosts St. Croix Central.

A win by both the Vikings and Cardinals would set-up a showdown for the championship Tuesday in Colfax, the Vikings led by former Spring Valley head coach Pam Meredith and the Cardinals coached by her former player Kellie Schlegel. A loss by Valley would hurt but would not be devestating if they could bounce back and beat Colfax Tuesday while Mondovi would have to close out its season against a tough Pepin squad in Mondovi.

The Buffaloes are led by their big hitter senior Jenna Franzwa, who has 127 kills on the season and is second in the league in aces with 42. Senior setter Cherylin Yealey has over 340 assists and 139 digs while fellow senior Emily Stoughton is also in the top 10 in digs with 153.

If the Cardinals display the kind of balance on offense they had against the Bulldogs they themselves will be tough to beat. Emily Boisen led the way for the Redbirds in kills with 11 but Nevada Schlegel had nine kills, Aly Lee and Becky Fesenmaier both had five and Jessica Christensen had two kills.

A veteran setter helps certainly helps in this regard and Spring Valley senior Tana O'Keefe added to her league-leading total of 463 with 23 assists against the Bulldogs. Boisen, also a senior, now leads the D-SC in kills with 165

SV also served quite well, scoring seven aces against Boyceville led by Boisen's three.

Also tonight in the D-SC and the county (MBC squads are off this evening), Elmwood is at Plum City in a match-up of 1-6 teams looking for a second league win.

The conference season concludes Tuesday with the aforementioned Spring Valley-Colfax match-up along with St. Croix Central at Elmwood, Plum City at Glenwood City in the D-SC and Ellsworth at Amery and Prescott and Somerset in the MBC.
