Big win for Valley over Elk Mound, EPC rally falls short
For the first time since 2003 and the first time in the regular season since 2001, the Spring Valley High School football team gets a win over Elk Mound.
And it was no ordinary win either as the Cardinals crushed the Mounders to be 3-0 for the first time since 2003, 1-0 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference.
SV rushed for 350 yards led by backs Tyler O'Keefe with 139 yards, Zach Newton with 82 yards and Jed Schlegel with 86. O'Keefe had scoring runs of 32 and 67 yards while Cardinal quarterback Zach Newton had TD runs of 58 and five yards. Schlegel scored on a 41 yard run to seal the win in the fourth quarter.
EPC, meanwhile, dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Lakeland South as they fell 22-16 to Clear Lake at Plum City. EPC fell behind 22-0 midway through the second half but came back with a Levi Wolf to Tyler Freyholtz 38-yard TD pass plus a three-yard touchdown run by Bryce Bock in the fourth quarter but the Wolves ran out of time.
