Blue Devils' season ends in regional finals
ARCADIA - Plum City High Schools boys basketball team was beaten in the finals of the WIAA Division 4 Arcadia Regional tournament Saturday evening 68-61 to Chippewa Falls McDonell.
With about three minutes left the Blue Devils trailed by two points. They could have tied the score or taken the lead on three different possessions, but all three Plum City shots failed to fall.
The Blue Devils played a triangle-and-two in the second half. But the defense didn't stop senior Derek Watton from scoring a game-high 23 points.
Plum City finished the season with an 8-15 record. McDonell moves to the semifinals of the Onalaska Sectional tournament Thursday when they take on New Lisbon in Osseo.
The Blue Devils dug themselves a big hole early. They trailed 16-9 after one quarter and 34-20 at half. Plum City got itself back in the game by outscoring the Macks, 16-9 overall, 26-15 in the third quarter.
The Macks made 20 of 23 foul shots while PC was just 6-of-9 from the line.
Chase Luebker made four 3-pointers and the sophomore finished with 20 points to lead Plum City. Senior Ryan Flynn added 10 points and a team-best six rebounds. Senior Shawn Ingli and junior Alex Gilles scored nine points apiece.
