Blue Hastings bridge about to be hauled away
The landmark big blue iron bridge in Hastings will start looking a whole lot different next week. Beginning as early as Monday, crews will be dismantling the blue bridge and hauling it away.
The process is expected to take about one to two months.
The pieces will be taken to a salvage yard in South St. Paul.
The blue bridge was opened in 1951 and before it was shut down over the summer, it became the most heavily traveled two-lane bridge in the state.
Crews were forced to close Second Street in downtown Hastings for two days earlier this week, but the road has since reopened.
