Broz's to host an East End party this Saturday night
Although the official permit for the annual East Ellsworth Street Dance was turned down by the Ellsworth Village Board at their meeting last month, that isn't stopping Broz's Bar in the east end from having an outdoor party this Saturday.
Broz's will used a privately owned back lot behind the establishment to have live music and dancing starting at 8 p.m.
"We'll only be selling alcohol inside the bar as per state statutes concerning off-sales and we'll only be going until midnight as not to violate any village noise ordinances. We want to make sure we won't have the same problems as they've had with tractor pulls that have gone on late into the night," Broz owner Jason Marks said.
The board voted 6-1 against the permit with only trustee and east end resident Dick Hines dissenting. The street dance had been long running event in East Ellsworth but increasing disputes between the village and east end bar owners like Marks over clean-up, premise extension, alcohol sales and police staffing.
"We're calling this our 'East End Rebellion Tour'," Marks said. "We're looking forward to having a good time and keeping the street dance tradition alive."
