Bucks to open Summer League July 13 in Las Vegas
The Milwaukee Bucks will open their N-B-A Summer League schedule on July 13th in Las Vegas. The format is different this year. The Bucks will three opening round games. And then all the teams will be seeded for a single-elimination tournament that culminates with a championship contest on July 22nd. There will also be a consolation round, so all teams are guaranteed a minimum of five games. Milwaukee’s scheduled contests will be against Denver on July 13th, New Orleans on the 14th, and Golden State on July 16th. Summer League teams are made up of first-and-second-year players. Power forward John Henson, who’s starting his second year, will be part of the Bucks’ team along with the team’s draft choices and a number of young free agents. At least some of those players will come from the Bucks’ try-out camp for undrafted players, which winds down today.
The Milwaukee Bucks only have seven players under contract – and it’s possible that one of the players in a free-agent camp this week could end up joining the team. Twenty-three young players who are not eligible for the draft are taking part in the three-day camp, which ends today. Bucks’ scouting director Billy McKinney says he hopes several of the camp participants will be invited to the Bucks’ N-B-A Summer League team in Las Vegas – with one of them possibly signing a contract. The Bucks also have next Thursday’s N-B-A Draft and the summer free agency period to restock their roster. Milwaukee saved 11-million dollars on Monday, after Monta Ellis rejected his player option and decided to move on. The Bucks have a one-and-a-half million dollar team option for forward Gustavo Avon – and they have nine days to decide whether to exercise it. Milwaukee can also match any offer Brandon Jennings gets as a restricted free agent. The seven players under contract are Ersan Ilyasova, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Larry Sanders, John Henson, Ekpe Udoh, Drew Gooden, and Ish Smith.
