Burgess new Roberts police chief

SPRING VALLEY--Dan Burgess announced his resignation as Spring Valley Police Chief earlier this month to take the same position in Roberts.

Burgess' last day in Spring Valley is Friday, Nov. 27, and he starts in Roberts the following Monday (Nov. 30).

He said he was intrigued by the opening, as it came at a perfect time, both personally and professionally. Included in that reasoning is Roberts' larger police force and the chance to move closer to the Twin Cities.

Burgess came to Spring Valley in March 2006, replacing longtime Police Chief Jim Furuglyas, who retired. Prior to that, he was a patrol officer in River Falls for five years.

"Spring Valley has been an excellent community to work with," Burgess said. "I'm definitely going to miss the people and relationships I've made here."

Burgess and wife Beth are the parents of two kids. He said eventually they plan on moving closer to the Roberts area.

Burgess succeeds Ricci Prein, who was dismissed by a Police Review Board in August 2008. The process to find Burgess' replacement has begun, as Spring Valley posted advertisements for the position last week.
