Bus hits bear

Email News Alerts

The night of Sept. 26 provided an unusual occurrence for around 30 people as they rode on a bus on Hwy. 10 through Ellsworth. All of a sudden, explained Brad Marx, they heard a loud noise, which caused one person to comment, “The bus must have hit a deer.” Marx replied, “That’s no deer,” and was proven correct as it turned out to be a bear. The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hwy. 10 and the old main street. Marx said there was nothing the bus driver could have done to prevent the accident. The bus was coming from Vino in the Valley for Jason Raway’s groom’s dinner with Hastings as its destination. Marx said the right back wheelwell of the bus was damaged. He also said hair was embedded in the rim of the tire. The bear was already tagged when the call was made to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. (Submitted photo)
