Busy day for Prescott hoops fans Saturday
Prescott basketball fans will put a lot of miles on their cars Saturday following Prescott High School basketball teams as they both compete Saturday in WIAA playoff contests.
The Cardinal girls will play in the Division 3 sectional finals in Altoona. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Prescott will take on Fall Creek, 19-5 overall, which, like Prescott, handed an unbeaten team its first loss when the Crickets upended Hurley Friday 53-38.
Fall Creek is led in scoring by 5-9, junior Kassia Anderson, who averages over 13 points per game. The Crickets also get 10 points per game from fellow junior Katelynn Folkers. Fall Creek is well tested having played in the hypercompetitive Cloverbelt Conference. The game will also be practically a home contest for Fall Creek as the school is just 12 miles down the road from Altoona High School.
Before then, Prescott fans will be in Amery Saturday afternoon to watch the Cardinal boys' basketball team take on St. Croix Central in the Division 3 regional finals. Tip-off is at 1:30. The Redbirds are on a four-game winning streak while Central is coming off a 68-67 overtime win over No. 13 Grantsburg. The Panthers, 11-11 overall, are led by their backcourt, sophomore Kyle Cress and junior Brian Aldworth.
The Middle Border Conference will ensure itself a team in the state girls basketball tournament as Amery will take on Durand in the finals of the Division 2 Chippewa Falls Sectionals Saturday at 7 p.m. at Chippewa Falls High School.
Also in action on the hardwood Saturday is Spring Valley's boys team as the Cardinals will take on Gilmanton in the WIAA Division 4 regional finals at Arcadia. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
