PRESCOTT - Showing resiliance and toughness and fortitude, qualities they didn't exactly need when putting together back-to-back shutouts of their first two opponents, the Prescott High School football team eked out a one-point win over Amery Friday 27-26 at Laney Field to stay undefeated on the season at 3-0, 1-0 in the Middle Border Conference.

PHS scored easily on its first drive, a 25-yard touchdown run by Troy Urman in which he broke several tackle attempts on his way to the endzone. The drive was set-up by an interception by Alex Helmer on Amery's first possession. Perhaps too easy for Amery came back to give the Cards' a really good scrap. Amery quarback Jordan Luehman and running back Broden Schock teamed up to move the ball consistently for the Warriors right into the endzone. Luehman scored on a three-yard run which helped tie the game in the first quarter. Luehman threw a touchdown pass and scored on a two-yard run midway through the third quarter to give Amery its first lead at 20-14. Schock had a 10-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter.

PHS running back Nick Opdahl scored two key fourth quarter touchdown runs of three yards each to put Prescott back in front twice, the second time for the final time at 27-26 with less than a minute left in the contest. Cardinal kicker Owen Schommer was perfect on his PAT kicks while Amery had two crucial missed extra-points in the second half which proved costly. Turnovers also hurt Amery as Prescott's Payton Bartsch recovered a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown in the second quarter while Helmer's second INT of the evening came with five seconds remaining as Amery was driving for the winning score.
