A record number of entries plus the normal huge crowd of spectators were highlights of the Ellsworth Funsters annual Demolition Derby at the Pierce County Fair Saturday evening.

This year's derby was a memorial to honor long-time derby driver Wayne Peterson, who passed away in April of this year. A moment of silence was also taken for Nicholas Rhiel, a pit crew member for driver Dan Langer who was seriously injured in an accident Saturday morning. The national anthem was sung by Brooke Thoen.

There were plenty of Petersons and Owens involved in this year's derby to go a large number of entries. There were four classes and mulitple heats in the stock and compact divisions.

Not only was there a large line through the fairgrounds Saturday afternoon to get tickets but also a line for persons camping out at the gates of the grandstand waiting to get at least three hours before the gates opened.

Other Saturday night entertainment at the fair included Jazzy the Dream Girl hypnotist and karaoke in the social garden.

Sunday is the last day of the fair. The fair will go until 5 p.m. The Gopher State Garden Tractor Pull Championships are at noon at the Grandstand. Also the Colleen Raye Family Show will perform at the picnic shelter at noon and 2 p.m. Before then the St. Croix 4-H Youth Choir will perform at 11 a.m. followed by a veterans ceremony, century farmer and home recognition all starting 11:30 a.m. in the picnic shelter. Pickles the Clown will also be performing in the gazebo from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
