Charges expected in crash that injured teen bicyclist
COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. -- Cottage Grove police say they have located the driver involved in an apparent hit-and-run crash Tuesday that injured a boy on a bicycle.
The man, who lives near the crash scene, was expected to be arrested and charged Wednesday, police said. Details about the driver had not been released, as the accident remained under investigation.
Police were called shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday to Hinton Avenue and 79th Street on a report of a teen struck while riding a bicycle.
The 14-year-old boy was trying to cross from the east side of Hinton Avenue near Crestview Elementary School to the west side when a sport utility vehicle struck him, police said. The vehicle dragged the boy and his bike about 80 feet.
The driver stopped, left his vehicle and yelled at a group of kids near the victim before driving away, police Capt. Pete Koerner said.
The man was found later at his home.
The boy was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was conscious and alert as paramedics treated him at the scene for an obvious leg injury. His condition was not immediately available Wednesday.
