Child airlifted following farm accident

A 5-year-old boy was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul following a farm accident in the Town of Union in Pierce County on Friday.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, at around 5:55 p.m., Randy Holmstadt was driving a skid steer moving hay bales on the family's farm, at N1867 20th St. near Plum City.

Holmstadt's son Ethan accidentally walked in front of the skid steer and was bumped by a hay bale.

A Life Link III helicopter was called to the scene and airlifted the child to Regions Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Assisting on the scene were emergency responders from Plum City and Ellsworth.
