Children's author revisited classroom on May 19
Mrs. Martin's second grade class at Hillcrest Elementary School will host a book reading by former Hillcrest student Susan Huppert on Wednesday, May 19.
With passion to instill reading and illustration as paths to enrichment, Huppert shares with students the process of writing books. Huppert, a regionally and nationally published author, will share with various classes at the school her published work, "Climb Aboard."
"There is so much potential for creative expression wrapped up in young minds that it is exciting to open the idea of writing and illustrating to students and see what comes out," Huppert says.
The former Ellsworth native will spend the day among the Hillcrest classrooms reading, discussing the process of writing and entertaining questions from the students.
The brightly illustrated 24-page story speaks to readers of all ages as the message of inspiration and optimism provides hope and momentum to possibility thinkers. Specific to the Upper Mississippi area, Huppert captures the essence of a store owner's dream of blending a caboose and an ice cream shop as she tracks the development of Flat Pennies Ice Cream in Bay City with a lighthearted style. Visionaries young and old catch the excitement of following a dream to reality in the pages of "Climb Aboard."
"Climb Aboard" will be available for students along with coupons for free ice cream cones.
