Ellsworth Chiropractic and Wellness Center opened in the Village Shopping Center Wednesday.

Owner Gayle Nissen said the new midway district location is more than twice as large as her former clinic in east end. The clinic operated there for over 17 years.

Services are being expanded at the new site, Nissen said Friday.

"We want to provide whatever works best for the individual," she said, explaining that could be one specialty or a combination of those the center will offer.

The wellness part of the business' name refers to the addition of Complimentary Alternative Medicine therapies, the owner said. Such therapies are part of the integrative health care system she plans to offer. Toward that end, she's returned to school at the Northwest College of Chiropractic.

Megan Stockwell is widening the scope of her contribution to the center as a massage therapist. Stockwell said she's introducing foot bath equipment which pulls out toxins produced in the body.

"I've had requests for this equipment," she said.

The four-year veteran of the business also said she's adding hot-stone massage. She has a set of 50 stones, similar to flat rocks, which are heated and can be covered with cream to be used for deep penetration.

"They can help relieve those deep, achy feelings," she said.

Kathy Bartelt has joined the center's staff, specializing in acupuncture and oriental medicine. The fung-shue consultant has a masters degree in her specialty.

Sara Albrecht brings her experience as a personal trainer to the center. Albrecht is also a trainer at Snap Fitness next door.

Exercise classes, including yoga, will be available, Nissen said. She'd like to add a nutrition counselor, too; qualified people who are interested can contact her at 273-4115.

A grand opening at Ellsworth Chiropractic and Wellness Center is scheduled for this Friday, featuring food, massage specials and more. Regular hours are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
