Church youth to gather food for Thanksgiving
More than 50 youths in English Lutheran Church's confirmation program will gather food from the community in the next few weeks to help supply Thanksgiving baskets the congregation will put together for struggling families in the Ellsworth area.
In recent years, this tradition has been growing, and last year 33 households received boxes full of canned goods and staples as well as frozen turkeys and all the items needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, including pumpkin pie.
The youth will go out to Ellsworth neighborhoods with their adult confirmation guides on Wednesday, Nov. 10, to distribute flyers inviting the community to prepare items to be picked up the following Wednesday, Nov. 17, between 5 and 7 p.m. "Baskets" will be prepared by volunteers on Nov. 20, and distributed after church services, noon-2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, to families who have been referred to the church.
People of the community are also welcome to bring items to English Lutheran Church, 229 W. Main St., until Friday, Nov. 19, if they want to contribute to this project aimed at providing food resources and a happy holiday to struggling families in the community.
