Comeback falls short for Plum City
BOYCEVILLE - Chase Luebker scored 22 fourth-quarter points to get the Plum City boys basketball team back in its game against Boyceville Thursday in Boyceville but it wasn't enough as the Blue Devils fell 64-59.
Luebker, a senior, finished with 32 points and 12 rebounds to lead Plum City (4-7, 3-7 Dunn-St. Croix). Senior Travis Hines added seven points and a block in the loss.
Boyceville had four players score in double figures with Ryan Bloom leading the Bulldogs with 14 points. Mike Lagerstrom and Luke Hellmann scored 13 points each and Kyle Franseen added tallied 11 points. Boyceville finished 17 of 38 from the free-throw line.
The Blue Devils started well, leading 15-8 at the end of the first quarter, but foul trouble put Boyceville in the bonus early in the second quarter. Plum City trailed 28-23 at halftime.
Plum City committed 25 fouls in the game and senior Kris Krueger and Chad Fox both fouled out. Luebker did his best to bring the Blue Devils back with four three-pointers in the fourth quarter but Boyceville scored 10 points in the fourth quarter on free throws and were in the bonus for all but one minute of the final quarter, Plum City head coach Zach Watkins said.
The Blue Devils host Elmwood Tuesday.
