Committee votes to limit snowmobile speeds at night
Wisconsin is one step closer to keeping its nighttime speed limit on snowmobiles.
The Assembly Tourism Committee has voted to extend the current 55 mph nighttime limit on the trails for another three years.
It was imposed last winter on an experimental basis.
Because trails opened late due to warm weather, the DNR found it impossible to see if the lower speeds made things any safer.
The DNR's Gary Eddy says riders obviously cannot see as well when it is dark and a speed limit is a safe measure regardless of the statistics. If he had his druthers, the 55-limit would be permanent after dark.
