County athletes take home titles from Larry Z Invite
BOYCEVILLE - After a break in the high school track and field season, both the Elmwood/Plum City and Spring Valley boys and girls track and field teams were in action Thursday at the Larry Z Invitational.
EPC's girls finished fourth and the boys were sixth in the eight team meet. Spring Valley's boys placed third and the girls finished fifth. St. Croix Central won both the boys' and girls' meets.
Spring Valley's Zac Wesbter won all the jumping events in the boys' meet. He finished first in the high jump at six feet-four inches, the long jump in 20-6 and the triple jump in 43-8. SV's Tatum Huntress took first in the girls' long jump in 14-3.
EPC's Sarah Gilles took first in the girls' triple jump at 31-3 and won both hurdle races, the 100 in :17.53 and the 300 in :51:05. Gilles was also a part of EPC's winning 1600-meter relay team along with Elaina Danzinger, Kaitlyn Lee and Libby Feuker. Their winning time was 4:28.18.
EPC's Andrew Gilles won both the 800-meter run in 2:10.63 and the 1600 in 4:50.14.
EPC will run in today's Fuller Invitational at Ellsworth's Fuller-Symes Field along with Prescott and the host Panthers. Also in the eight-team field are Baldwin-Woodville, Durand, Menomonie, Osceola and Amery. The meet begins at 4 p.m.
