County Board approves agreements with highway, sheriff
The Pierce County Board of Supervisors acted on several matters during its 30-minute meeting Tuesday morning.
--Ratification of a collective bargaining agreement with the Sheriff's Department Employees' Association. Effective May 1, salaries will increase one percent for 2013 and then be frozen in 2014. For this year, the county will pay 90 percent toward an employee's health premiums and 88 percent the following year.
--Ratification of the county's final offer to AFSCME - Highway. The county had offered a 1.25 percent increase to each wage rate, which was rejected by the highway department union. After an impasse in negotiations, the county has the authority to "unilaterally implement its' last best offer," according to state statutes.
--Approval of the county board regular meeting dates for the next 12 months. Meetings are still scheduled for the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the exception of November (9 a.m., Nov. 12) and the April 2014 meeting (9 a.m., April 15). The December meeting is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 17.
--By a 14-1 vote, support for the efforts to maintain the tax-exempt status of municipal bonds. Supervisor Michael Kahlow voted no. Supervisors Jon Aubart and Ken Snow had excused absences.
--Amending the Pierce County Code in which the administrative coordinator will no longer sit in on performance reviews of corporation counsel. The code was also amended in which the county no longer will appoint representatives to the Great River Road and Partners in Tourism boards.
--Appointment of citizen Tom Boden to the Aging and Disability Resource Center Governing Board for the next three years, citizens Greg Engeset and Sandra Weix and Supervisor Scott Bjork to the Solid Waste Board, and citizens John Rongitsch and Jeff Olson to the Information Services Committee.
