County makes plans to spend stimulus allocation
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Tuesday, the Pierce County Board endorsed a list of county building and bridge projects to be funded through the county's $1.7 million federal stimulus bond allocation.

The stimulus package authorizes issuing Recovery Zone Economic Development Bonds under which the federal government will pay 45 percent of interest on the debt.

Pierce County could either use the bonding authority to borrow money for its own projects or sub-allocate the opportunity to its cities, villages and towns. In December, the county board decided to look to its own projects first.

The projects endorsed Tuesday include:

--Replace bridges on CTHs F and U. This will use the bulk of the allocation.

--Replace the courthouse roof, estimated cost $31,000.

--Parking lot resurfacing and lighting at the courthouse and county office building, estimated cost $208,000.
