County prep softball teams beat in regional finals
The Prescott and Elmwood/Plum City prep softball teams both lost their WIAA regional tournament finals contests Thursday.
PHS was beaten 2-1 by Eau Claire Regis at Biggs Field in Prescott in Division 3 whie EPC was topped 11-6 by Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran at Gelein Field in Eau Claire in Division 4.
Prescott could only get three hits and no earned runs against winning pitcher Kayla Pettis-Miller, who struck out nine batters. The Cardials put two on with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to get the tying and winning runs across. Prescott finishes its season at 13-6 overall.
EPC took a 4-3 lead on Immanual after batting in their half of the fifth inning. But the Lancers plated seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and EPC could only manage two more runs afterwards. Emily Hoyt had three hits, scored twice and drive in three runs for the Wolves while teammate Liz Fredrickson had two hits and an RBI. The loss broke a nine-game winning streak for EPC as they end the season with a 13-9 record.
