County teams begin season at Boyceville Invitational
BOYCEVILLE - Three Pierce County prep cross country teams took part in the Boyceville Alumni Invitational Thursday morning.
Spring Valley's boys team finished third out of the 15 schools participating. The Cardinals scored 123 points, behind Colfax's 56 points and St. Croix Central' s 59 points. Elmwood/Plum City was fifth with 147 points. Ellsworth had an incomplete team.
SV was led by runners Aidan Manley and Tyler Ellefson who finished 2-3 on the 5000-meter course with times of 17:49 and 18:16 respectively. EPC's Andrew Gilles finished fourth. Ellsworth's Carter Schutz was 12th in 19:48 and EPC's Chad Osteen finished in 21st in 20:30. SCC's Jordan Bringgold won the race in 17:23.
Spring Valley had the best and only team score in the girls' meet. The Cardinals were fourth out of the 14 schools participating with 109 points in a close spread with Glenwood City and Baldwin-Woodville both tied for second with 105 points. Fall Creek took first with 79 points. EPC and Ellsworth were incomplete.
For the first time in meet history girls' ran the 5000-meter course. Winning the race was Fall Creek's Emily Jaeger in 21:42.
SV senior Pearl Davis had the best finish of the county's runners as she finished ninth in 23:01. EHS had two runners in the top 20 led by freshman Julia Van Watermeulen, 16th in 23:49 and sophomore Maggie Engnes, 20th in 23:57. EPC's Libby Feuker was 23rd in 24:23.
Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City compete at the St. Croix Central Invitational in Hammond while Ellsworth will be at the G-E-T Invite next Thursday.
