County wrestling teams win duals Thursday, have tough weekend meets

All three Pierce County prep wrestling teams were victorious in dual meets Thursday evening by more than comfortable margins.

No. 2 ranked Ellsworth won at Baldwin-Woodville 76-0, No. 4 Spring Valley/Elmwood won at Unity 76-3 and Prescott topped Osceola in a Middle Border Conference dual 46-27.

The county's ranked grappling teams won pinfests in their respective duals. Ellsworth had eight against B-W while SVE notched 11 out of 12 matches wrestled against the Eagles in Balsam Lake.

Prescott had their share of pins too, six in all, to build a 46-12 advantage before Osceola won the last three matches.

Ellsworth's win was highlighted by the return of defending state champion Jens Lantz to the Panther line-up. He pinned his B-W opponent in :52 seconds at 132 pounds.

SVE heavyweight D.J. Wheeler had his team's fastest pinfall of the night, :38 seconds.

Prescott is off this weekend while both Ellsworth and Spring Valley/Elmwood have tough dual meet tournament assisgnments this Saturday.

Ellsworth is at the Dave Scharfberg Memorial Duals Tournament in Byron, Minn. and if everything works out could face Kasson-Mantorville, one of Minnesota's top-ranked teams, in the finals.

SVE will compete at the Dells Duals Classic at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The Redbirds will wrestle in the toughest pool in the meet along with No. 3 Amery, Wausau West, Mineral Point, West Salem/Bangor and No. 9 Sparta.
