Dayton to sign SSM bill today

ST. PAUL -- Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton will sign same-sex marriage legislation into law at 5 p.m. this evening on the front steps of the State Capitol.

Thousands cheered outside the chamber as the state Senate passed the bill Monday afternoon. Sarah Peterson was standing next to her partner when the vote came and says "it feels like nothing less than finally becoming a full-fledged citizen, with equal protection under the law and full guarantee of rights" Peterson's partner, Zooey Bird, says she? been waiting her whole life for this day and they can finally be married. Gay marriage will become legal in Minnesota August 1st.

Opponents warn Minnesotans' religious freedom will be jeopardized, and they say children without both a mother and a father will be hurt.
