Disney's 'Little Mermaid Jr.' opens Feb. 8 at Phipps
The Phipps Children's Theater will produce the area premier of Disney's "The Little Mermaid, Jr.," featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and the book by Doug Wright, which is based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen and the Disney film, Feb. 8-24 at The Phipps Center for the Arts.
In a magical kingdom fathoms below, the fun-loving and mischievous mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. In order to fulfill her dream, she will have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she is the girl with the enchanting voice.
Many of the actors are from five area high schools.
Cast members include: Andrew Leines as Prince Eric; Chandler MacSwain as King Triton; Brian Erdrich as Sebastian; Maggie Weller as Flounder; Charlie Johnson as Scuttle; Travis Schultz as Chef Louis; Blaine Davidson as Grimsby; Eli Baumgartner as Flotsam; Kayla Boyd (Hammond) as Jetsam; Katie Hackworthy as Carlotta; Kevin Pelzel as Pilot; Nic Bronson, Braden Hanafee-Major (New Richmond), Samir Idrissi (River Falls), Phillipe Thao, and Elijah Wood (Houlton) as sailors; Erin Coyer, Emily Gjerde (River Falls), Sarah Manche (River Falls), Katherine Schomas, Jordan Stewart, and Liz Yeske as the mersisters; Angela Brown (New Richmond), Ruby Johnson, Emily Kueppers (Woodbury), Charlie Thompson, Elijah Verdoorn, Kelly Waid, and Josie Zon as merfolk/sea creatures/lagoon animals. All actors are from Hudson, except where noted.
Performances will be Feb. 8-24 on Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., as well as Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students 13 and older as well as seniors, and $15 for children 4 - 12 years old, with a $2 discount for the opening weekend.
This production is not recommended for children under age 4.
