Early morning winds, rain cause damage around New Richmond
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Heavy rains and high winds blew through the New Richmond area on Friday morning, June 21.

The most significant report of damage came from New Richmond High School, where relatively new bleachers at the varsity baseball field were picked up by the high winds and driven into the chainlink backstop. Crews from LaVenture Crane were called in to pick up the bleachers and deal with the damage.

Otherwise, most of the local damage was limited to trees and branches being knocked down.

City Administrator and Utilities Manager Mike Darrow said city crews were out picking up branches and leaves Friday morning. There were no reports of power outages locally, he said.

According to the New Richmond Regional Airport website, about 1.43 inches of rain fell in a relatively short timeframe Friday morning. There were some anecdotal reports from others around New Richmond that much more may have fallen in some locations.

The highest wind gust reported at the airport was 51 miles per hour, according to their weather observations.
