Eau Claire man sentenced to prison for felonies
An Eau Claire man plead guilty to four charges Monday in Pierce County Circuit Court stemming from a November incident in which he led Pierce County law enforcement on a car and foot chase.
Matthew P. Betters, 41, plead guilty to possession of methamphetamine and operating a vehicle to flee an officer, both felonies. The misdemeanors were resisting or obstructing an officer and criminal damage to property. The other charges of second degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of THC and drug paraphernalia were dismissed as part of the agreement.
Pierce County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Boles handed down a sentence of 15 months prison for the two felonies. The sentence will run concurrent with another sentence Betters has to re-serve from Eau Claire and Chippewa counties. In 2012, Betters was sentenced to three years prison (with 173 days credit) plus three years extended supervision for his seventh OWI, two counts of taking and driving vehicle without consent and using a fake ID to obtain money. Upon his release, Boles also put Betters on 24 months extended supervision. The misdemeanor sentence was for nine months jail which will run concurrent with his earlier sentences.
