Ellsworth's girls’ team fell behind and could never generate the offense needed to catch up.

The Panthers trailed 13-9 late in the second quarter but a three-pointer near the end of the first half put the Warriors up by seven at half. EHS came no closer than six in the second half.  Amery's defense held Ellsworth's Kelsey Betthauser well below her scoring averages with six points. The Panthers' Chelsy Strom scored six points as well. Hayley Stoesz finished with five points for the Panthers. Amery's Alison Schultz finished with 12 points and center Laura Jensen finished with 10 points.

EHS remains winless at 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the Middle Border Conference. Amery improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the MBC.

Ellsworth outscored Amery 9-0 in the last two and half minutes of the fourth quarter to remain unbeaten in the Middle Border Conference, winning in exciting fashion.

The Panthers trailed at halftime 25-21 but outscored Amery 13-8 in the third quarter to take a 34-33 lead. EHS expanded the lead to 37-33 but the Warriors came back to lead 39-37 and 42-40 midway through the quarter before the Purple went on their final run. EHS's Logan Armstrong and Nick Taranto both hit crucial three-pointers to put Ellsworth in front again after brief deficits. Evan Klawitter made a huge basket in the lane after EHS cracked Amery's tough man-to-man defense and Kyle Murphy sank five-of-five from the free-throw line to wrap-up the win.

EHS had four players in double figures led by Armstrong's 13 points, 11 each from Taranto and Murphy and 10 from Chrystian Kulow. Amery did not have a player in double figures.

The Panthers are 3-0 in the MBC (3-2 overall), tied with Prescott for first place. Amery is 0-3 in league play, 2-3 overall.

Ellsworth's girls’ team hosts Durand next Friday evening while the boys team is at Durand next Thursday.
