EHS routs opponents to win ninth straight team sectional title
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

If you came to the WIAA Division 2 Ellsworth Team Sectional Tournament Tuesday evening hoping to see another exciting dual meet between Ellsworth and Amery like the 33-29 regular season dual, you were bound to be disappointed.

Unless you were an Ellsworth fan.

The No. 1 Panthers walloped No. 5 Amery 44-19 and Rice Lake 67-4 for their ninth straight team sectional title.

EHS easily dispatched Rice Lake, winning 13 of 14 matches and getting falls from Gabe Mancino at 113 pounds; Jens Lantz at 126; Trsiten Mueller at 138; Logan Kemmerer at 170; Brock Steldt at 195 and Brodey Kemmerer at heavyweight. EHS also picked up three forfeits.

With Amery knocking off Stanley-Boyd/Owen-Withee/Thorp 52-23, the stage was set for another sectional final showdown between Ellsworth and Amery. But this time the Panthers dominanted rather than eke out a win thanks to five pinfalls for Lantz, Mueller, Gabe Frandsen at 160; Dennis Schutz at 182 and Kemmerer again at heavyweight. EHS also notched a tech. fall from Logan Kemmerer at 170.

Also winning for EHS were Jacob Fuchs by a 3-1 score over Amery's Trent Dado at 145; Ken Stowe upsetting the Warriors Kenny Gates 3-2 at 220 and the Purple's Brock Steldt once again clinching the meet over Amery with a dramatic 6-2 win over Broden Schock at 195.

Ellsworth improves to 18-3 overall. They will take on Evansville/Albany in the state semifinals March 8 beginning at 10 a.m. The other semifinal has No. 2 Wittenberg-Brinamwood vs. No. 6 Pewaukee.
