OSCEOLA - Ellsworth High school tennis player Tiffany Weiss was the team's only sectional qualifier after winning her No. 1 singles match during Tuesday's WIAA Division 2 Sub-Sectional meet.


Weiss defeated her first round opponent, Ashland's Emily Halvorson, 6-1, 6-2. She has to win one more match to qualify for the individual state meet. The sectional meet begins Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in Durand.

Ellsworth scored four points in the sub-sectional meet. The Panthers only other points win came from its No. 3 doubles team of Katie Kurrelmeyer and Jordyn Olson 6-0, 6-1 over the Hurley duo of Brookins and Howser. However, the Ellsworth team lost in the finals to Baldwin-Woodville's Denae Dahl and Laura Doornik 2-6, 3-6.

Brooke Hines at No. 3 singles and Ellsworth's No. 2 doubles team of Stacie Peterson and Bethany Olson won their prelim matches but lost in semifinals.

Weiss will take on La Crosse Aquinas' Sloan Kessler in the first round. Kessler is 21-6 overall.
