Ellsworth advances in playoffs with 9-1 win

Ellsworth High School's baseball team plated five runs in the third inning and went on to beat Baldwin-Woodville 9-1 at Brown Field in Hager City in a WIAA Division 2 regional first round contest.

Winning pitcher Brady Schroeder tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight batters. He also was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

The Panthers' Dennis Schutz had four hits, an RBI and scored three times as the Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak.

Ellsworth, 8-10 overall, the No. 4 seed in the regional, plays at No. 2 seeded Somerset on Tuesday. Somerset had a bye in the first round.
