Ellsworth baseball team clinches share of MBC title with Prescott loss

The Ellsworth High School baseball team clinched a share of the Middle Border Conference Tuesday through a win and an assist.

The No. 2 ranked Panthers won at Baldwin-Woodville 5-3 while No. 6 Prescott was upset at Osceola 2-0.

The Chieftains scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a scoreless tie. PHS still outhit Osceola 10-4.

The league title is Ellsworth's second in a row and 10th in school history.

Prescott hasn't been eliminated from the league title chase just yet but they'll need to win Thursday at home vs. Ellsworth, then beat Osceola Tuesday at home and hope EHS loses at Somerset next Tuesday as well. First pitch for this Thursday's game is at 5 p.m. at Firehall Field.

Ellsworth almost got caught looking ahead as well,  especially after B-W scored three runs in the bottom of the second to tie the contest. But the Panthers plated runs in the third and fifth inning to go in front.

Dennis Schutz hyad two hits and two RBIs for the Panthers. Mike Koch had two hits as well for the Purple while Logan Armstrong and Dan Giese both drove in runs too.
