Ellsworth, Prescott girls' hoops fall in MBC games
Ellsworth and Prescott high school's girls basketball teams both were beaten in Middle Border Conference games Tuesday, both played away from Pierce County.
Prescott suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss at Amery 42-41. PHS couldn't hold onto a 20-14 halftime lead as the Warriors outscored them 12-2 in the third quarter. Elly Boles and Katy Syverson both scored 14 points each for the Cardinals, who are 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the league. Prescott won't have much time to stew over the loss as they play at St. Croix Central Thursday.
Ellsworth was beaten by No. 6 ranked Baldwin-Woodville 58-31, although it was better showing for EHS than the 52-17 score in the season opener for the two teams. Kelsey Betthauser had 18 points and Chelsy Strom five points for the Panthers, who are now 1-9 overall and still winless in league play at 0-6. Ellsworth is at New Richmond Friday.
