Ellsworth school planning process to set 5-year direction

A strategic planning process to be begun by the Ellsworth School District this spring will determine the district's direction for the next five years.

Earlier this month, the local school board approved hiring Alabama-based Cambridge Strategic Services as consultant for the several-phase process. Superintendent Barry Cain, who will serve as internal facilitator, said Wednesday he expects the recommended goals to be ready for action by late this year or early next year.

"As an organization, we need an idea of where we're going," Cain said, confident the schools here will find effective ways of achieving that under Cambridge's consultation.

Cain said he's discussed strategic planning with other area superintendents and attended training put on by Cambridge in Minneapolis last summer. Their process has been accepted nationwide, he said.

"I saw a lot of value in it," he said.
