Ellsworth seeks 'go or no go' on intersection upgrade
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

The state's Department of Transportation (DOT) is examining whether improvements are needed to the Main and Piety streets intersection in Ellsworth--including the possible installation of traffic signals there--at the request of village officials, who were contacted by a local citizen with the signals idea earlier this summer.

The matter was an item at a meeting of the Pierce County Traffic Safety Commission Wednesday. Greg Helgeson, traffic safety engineer for the DOT's Eau Claire office, told commission members he visited the location at the eastern end of the village's west business district that morning, accompanied by local Public Works Director Greg Engeset, Village Trustee Kenny Manfred and Police Chief Greg Place. Main Street is also Hwy. 10-63.

"They thought the volume of traffic seemed rather light (compared to normal)," Helgeson said of the others' reactions.
