Our Ad Hoc Facilities Committee held its final meeting as a full committee Sept. 17. I would like to thank the committee members for all of their hard work and leadership since we first met in May 2012.
As a result of the committee's work, the School Board has a tremendous amount of information regarding our current facilities and options for addressing our many needs.
At the Oct. 14 regular meeting, our School Board will be presented with draft plans and cost estimates for the building of one elementary school to house all of our four-year-old kindergarten through grade five students. Current plans have this school located directly east of the senior high school.
This plan also includes steps to improve security at our high school and middle school buildings, changes to our outdoor field and community spaces, increased event parking, and the removal of our current bus garage to an off-site location to maximize the use of our campus for students and the community.
One of our School Board's goals for the 2013-2014 school year is to present a referendum to the community regarding these projects.
At the same time we are also working on the renewal of our district's ability to exceed the revenue limits. We are in the third and final year of our ability to exceed the revenue limit that was approved by our taxpayers.
Much more information will be coming regarding both of these topics. I encourage all residents to visit our facilities page on our website at www.ellsworth.k12.wi.us. This page provides a great deal of information about the work of the Ad Hoc Facilities Committee and the recommendations that this committee has made to the School Board.
